A recent study by the Tony Campolo School for Social Change at Eastern University shows that Belay Enterprises provides tremendous value to the Denver Metro area. The report notes that every dollar invested in our Bud’s Warehouse project returns almost five dollars in enterprise value and between five and six dollars in social purpose value. In other words, donations to Belay act as an investment in the community producing increased social-value in the future because of the enterprising nature of the innovative program. More information on the study is located at www.campoloschool.org/pdfs/BUDS_CSDesign.pdf.

The study shows that in 2003, the self-supporting Bud’s Warehouse program saved society a total of $185,000 in public assistance dollars for the 17 employees that participated in the program. This reflects money saved from direct social services as well as savings related to the program’s proven track record of reducing future incarceration rates. Upon graduation from the program, the average employee has improved his or her earning power by almost $18,000 and is contributing an average of $2644 in new taxes. These are statistics that reflect the reality of changed lives.
